A Galaxy Divided Empty A Galaxy Divided

Post by Lord James Thu May 22, 2014 12:45 pm

General Info: There will be references to the following Sci Fi films/shows/books. Vatta's War, Star Wars, Star Gate, and Battlestar Galatica.

Two: NO ONE WILL HAVE PAST ASSOCIATION WITH MY CHARACTER UNLESS I AGREE TO IT FIRST! Please, respect a character and their position unless you do not know what that position is. Don't be treating characters your friends play like they have been friends their whole lives unless its been agreed upon and so forth.

Three: The star wars galaxy itself will not be used in this role play but you may bring planets and systems from the other titles above into play. As for means of travel between galaxies, there is a devise referred to as a jump gate. You simply call the gate control center, tell them the galaxy name and then a wormhole will be opened from one gate to the other that you can pass through. Simple and easy.

Four: The galaxy known as the Coraliea Galaxy is under management/rule or whatever by a Guild that makes rules to operate trade companies. Backstory is that they heard about Vatta's war and thus put rules down to prevent anyone, including trading companies from gaining too much military power.

The rules everyone needs to know are as follows.
A) No sips above a light fright class ship may be built and used to military or civil means.
B) Trading companies may only have up to three hundred light curser class ships. All ship ID beacons must be reported to the guild. Ships without a registered beacon will be terminated on site.
C) Anyone seeking aid in the removal of a problem through military means may only use up to twenty allied ships. A guild ship will be provided to all members in the war on all sides to ensure this rule is broken. If broken the guild will enact the rule breaker as an enemy of the guild and reply with hostile action.
All laws but for those that specify otherwise will be enforced through monthly inspections.

So, that is that with the guild. Role play starts 20 years after Jane Corella comes into ownership of her fathers trading business known as the Vandorian trade Empire. (Please note that the word EMPIRE has nothing to do with a military aspect. The businesses is an empire composed of trade that is at this point the biggest business in this galaxy. Further more this company has trading arrangements with Slotter Key, Lastaway, and Cascadia (reference from Vatta's War) systems in another galaxy. Beyond that nothing important.

So time to begin the story.

"Honestly ma'am I don't see why you came. IF their is trouble then we can do much to protect you but run." The pilot said as we down jumped back into normal space. I gave a heavy sigh as I watched the scans. three days past, I was accompanying one of my secure fleets through a system known for pirate activity when a faint and week distress signal had been picked up. curious, I had three raptors prepped for a scouting on of the system, a dead zone as nothing is here, to discover what it was.

"We don't need to worry about pirates. These dead zones are dead zones for good reason. They won't bother us. Most they will do is shake their heads." I replied in a smooth and even voice. About then a signal come up on scans. "Hay, we got an object up head. Based on size and so forth, I want to say it some planetoid." There was a short silence.

"Ma'am, this is no planetoid." Confused for a moment I looked up and what I was met with caught my breath. Looking outside the raptor cockpit window, what I could see was a ship. The biggest ship I have ever seen. That or its a space station. Must be a station.

"Contact our scout mats, have them send for backup. Activate your scan and lets keep a distance but fly around it." I told the pilot as I rushed to sit in the co-pilots seat. Their I opened the Scan data screen and activated it.

Meanwhile the pilot opened the com. "Raptors Two and Three, report to main fleet and request backup. I repeat, send for backup...and have salvage crews prepped." With that he looked over at me. I nodded. He did well. Looking back up I could tell their was intense damage in several areas. "Scans indicate their are engines on this ma'am. It has to be a starship."

"There have been no ships this size for many years. This doe snot even match any ship we have referenced from the ones that did exist and even then, there were not enough of them to just lose one. No, this is not from our galaxy. Of that I am sure." I looked back at the scans and nearly chocked. "Twenty two levels to the ship. All but two have hull breaches. No power signatures. ITs a ghost ship in the middle of nowhere."

"Ma'am, with all do respect, how can you be sure this is not from our galaxy. For all we know the Guild may have found out someone made it and blown it to pieces." That may be a good point but the guild is relentless. They would never have left a ship like this hanging about. Just as I thought about it, he seamed to have taken notice. "But then again, it would not be here if that be the case. Ideas?"

This was dangerous. The company I know ran had high reputation for following rules, being honest, and keeping within a good line. Never have we had a war. We have always been open to talks to improve deals an all but this, this would cross the line so far we would not recover. The guild would never accept us controlling a ship this size. Ever.

To top that how could I hide it and why the hell was I considering even taking it?! If I report it, I can imagine the reward to be great indeed, but unlike others, I was not focused on money alone. Everyone hates the guild. That is a given. Pissing them off though could result in the destruction of the company. I came to when the pilot taped my arm. "Ma'am?"

"Scan the ship for life sings and I want detailed reports on the damage. Fine a spot for salvage crew to safely enter the ship. Until the fleet gets here there is little more we can do." The pilot paled, well almost. He knew as well as I on what I intended. It would not surprise me if he thought me insane. What's worse is that I might be. I had no real reason to keep this ship, but my gut told me I can not let the republic get their hands on it. Hours passed before either of the Raptors returned. Raptor three jumped in with a report over com. "Ma'am, fleet in on course to arrive in three standard hours. Crews for boarding and salvage are on prep. Raptor two stayed behind because of engine problems."

"Thank you cadet, radio silence until fleet arrives and lets go stock back at down jump point." With that we turned away from the ship and went to go camp. That would thankfully take an hour of the time we had to wait. For the remaining time, I thought of what to do.

The guild closely monitors fleet travel statuses closer in system or away from dead zones. My report to them was that I would arrive at the Jump Gate within a weeks time at most. Normally three days but I put in extra room in case of any problems like this. The fleet would have to go ahead, with me, to deliver the trade ships to the gate. Slotter Key Escorts would meet us there. If even one ship was not in the fleet, they may question us. So what was I to do?

Finally a plan clicked. At that point I checked the time. Ten minutes, give or take. Just as I was thinking about it, the ship shook slightly. A curser down jumped not far above us and we had the pleasure of being under the engines. Along with it came the rest of the fleet. Instantly I was hailed by a senior officer. "Ma'am we got your repot. What are your orders from here."

"Prepare the fleet to return to normal course from here and calculate the jump path. In the meantime get two salvage crews and three marine squads on that ship. Send over a temporary power generator as well. We can leave a light fright here to keep guard." I could make up an excuse I am sure. Rarely were we ever hit my pirates. Could say I sent the frigate back home.

"Yes ma'am, we will get that done right away. Hangers open for docking now. See you onboard." With that communications were cut and we did what needed being done. As soon as I landed, the fleet jumped again, heading a new course for the same destination. Before leaving I was sure to leave orders to turn off that distress beacon asap. Don't want prying curious eyes pocking around. Now, what was I to do, should someone report this to the Guild. To be honest, I had no idea. I could buy time maybe, come up with excuses for why we have yet to report the ship, but I could only hope it did not come to that. The next question was, what the hell do I do with a ship like that? All I could do was dream at this point.

((Important Questions: 1) Is ship class determined by tonnage or displacement? 2) Are there science caps? 3) Any prohibited weapons systems? 4) You mind if I steal some ideas from Sun of Suns and Old Man's War? ))

Looking out in to the inky black sargasso sea, I swore blindly. This was bad- our FTL drive had crapped out on us, leaving us in the middle of the hinterands. Still cursing my bad luck, I started giving instructions to my crew. On a dilapidated corvette like the Dreamcatcher, this was an unfortunate problem. Most crews, off their jump route, would panic and get lost, hopping around the Nothing looking for someplace to land until they crashed headfirst in to a mass shadow and turned in to a smear of static on someone's radio. Dreamcatcher, however, had this happened before- and we had survived.

"Launch catamarans and the jig. Full star mapping scan. You know the drill, gentlemen."

The plan was simple: get as many pictures of the local starsape as we could, feed them into the ships computer, and wait for it to compare our starscape to the map we had. I didn't know much about the specifics- what I did know was that it was a mess of triangles and trigonometry. The catamarans were insurance.

"Captain, this is launch bay. One of our catamarans says he found... something. About twenty light-seconds out from him, and ten from us"

Looking to my bridge talker, I maintained a steady expression. "Tell the catamaran crews to start getting in to position. Whatever it is, I want it mapped. Light arms warm, heavy weapons cold." As he nodded, I had to work keeping my face even. Like the 15mm FzK or the twin 8.5mm MK were light weapons, but that's as light as I could expect them to go. Shakking my head, I ordered the ship to make way to the unknown debris at all ahead full. This could be profitable.

****

Two light-seconds out from the hulk, I frowned irritably. There was a light frigate hovering around, as well as a pack of life signs onboard the ship.

"Scan that wreck, as well as the frigate. Passive only, active by the catamarans. If these pack rats don't have a legal claim to be here, then I want the jig out with welding crews to start nibbling the hull out. If that frigate makes noise, we can blow it up unless it's a Q-rig."

((A catamaran is a twin-engine heavy fighter armed with four 100-lbs rocket bombs, sixteen 20-lbs rockets, four 15mm FzK (Fluguen-Kannone [plane gun]), two 8.5mm MK (Macchinenkanone [machine gun]) and capacity to mount another ton of munitions or tow six tons of material. Visually, think Black Widow (P-61, not the spider) having a kid with a Blackbird (SR-71,not the bird). ))

"Sir, we have picked up a ship on scans. They are not for off. A few light hours at most. Scans indicate the ship is armed but heavy weapons are not online. Orders?" Captain Zan took a deep sigh as the report came in. He had hoped this would go quietly.

"keep our men on that ship. Establish a radio link with the unknown vessel and transmit another message, text only, to the closest Vandorian Station requesting the backup of one or two more light frigates to be safe. Lets see who these people are." The communications officer nodded and got to work. Then he gave the thumbs up.

Zan began to broadcast the unknown ship. "Unknown Vessel, this is Captain Zan of the Vandorian Frigate Starbord. If your a pirate vessel, recall your ships and disarm your ship and leave, otherwise, please respond with the name of your ship, the caption of your crew, and your business in these parts. Any acts of hostility between my men or anyone here operating under command of the Vandorian trade Empire will result in equal action from us."

Zan nodded to the officer. He cut the transition. "Lets see what they have to say. I want all batteries prepped just in case. Set ship alarm to code yellow. Keep everything else running as scheduled.

***

Our arrival at the original destination came a day before the reported due date. Plenty of time. The Stationmaster however was not all that pleased with my tardiness. "Your late! What happened? You and your proper stuck up bunch are never late!" I held back the urge to roll my eyes. There are three station masters that work here and this one was the most displeased with us all the time. If it was not one problem it was another and I am sure any report he gave against us by now would be put aside and forgotten. He only has his job because they need workers here at the gate station.

"Station Master I assure you our lateness was with good reason. A band of pirates dared get in my way and I was not in a playing mood. Now if you will stop this wasteful complaining can we just get too business so you can be rid of us sooner rather than latter?" I knew him enough that all he would do was grumble and open the gate up. Within a few hours our cargo ships were through the gate and we were on our way prepping to jump before the Station sent me a report. "Empress Jane you have a message pack for you. Its unopened, so I will just send it over now."

"Thank you Station Master. Your assistance is helpful." It would seam shifts changed sense i had left the station gate. I opened the message on my data screen as the file came through. The report was simple. Three escort class frigates were on their way to that large ship we found. Topping that, an unknown ship has found our crew over at the wreck. Organ and faction unknown. Now I was worried. "Emergency message to the fleet. Jump straight back to the frigate we left behind. Now."

I sat back and crossed my arms as the ships jumped. It would be a day or two longer before we arrived, but if it was a pirate, they would have no use in that ship and if they did, they were not taking it from us. As we cruised through the warp window I paced in my cabin. I set fleet status to yellow status. Preparations had been made to take immediate action if need be so...what was I missing?

(Lets keep references within the few that were listed please, just so everyone known to what people refer to. Lets not get too complicated. As for tech levels and so on, there will be minor differences between the galaxies in the sense of how things work and what they do but in all they balance each other out. As I said, lets keep it generally simple. So far the only thing that breaks the even flow is that large wrecked ship that's been found and even still, its not even working right now. Of course as things go along, it will all even out. The galaxies are going to be getting a tech upgrade through the rp. New stuff will come out as it goes.)

((Rats. I SO wanted to use your warpgates with the SoS microstars to create a brand-new system off the maps. Se la vi, I guess.))

((Also, the second paragraph is confusing. Is that a POV swap or something?))

Looking out over the text message, I frowned. Vandorians were not my favorite kinds of people, and niether were their ships or guns. Too many little spare parts you needed to get the mount to work, and the people were mostly burghers in well-developed areas. The Dreamcatcher was built out in the Fringe words, and crewed by people from there. The Fringe was a part of the galaxy that few went without desperate reason. Unstable stars, precarious FTL and hyperspace jumps, few ansibles, and hostile aliens all made people stay away from the worlds there. With multiple dominions vying for territory, it created a permanent crucible for change.

"A response, Ser?" My talker asked, quietly.

"Send that we are Stratocaster, under Captain Dominic the Silent, dealing with a drive failure en route. Send the false transponder code with it- the real Stratocaster isn't going to care. Gunners!" I called out, letting the weapons chief respond foggily.

"Order the batteries to begin warmup cycles and to begin developing passive solutions on the frigate. If they get pinged or guns go red, then heads will roll. Entendre?

Another sleepy "Aye" echoed out. Grinning softly, I started planning my next moves carefully. Right now, I was working under the limitations of a lightly-armed merchantman facing an unknown and apparent military vessel of unknown origins. Words in a text burst were all fine, for town dandies. Without a valid and continuous series of backchecks and official standard codifications, I didn't know those people from Jimmy Pirate, and any neutral spacefaring court would back me up on it. Of course, if I fired on them, then the opposite would be true. Now, as long as they didn't formally claim the salvage, I was set for some free money before I resumed my trip.

"Maintain station and launch the jig. We have them in a fair fight or duel of lawyers."

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Lord James Mon Jun 02, 2014 10:34 pm

(POV Swap.)

Zan snarled. This was not the day he had picked for a fight. "Pull shields to double broadside and prepare beam weapons one through for. Lock on the broadside cannons and report to the drone bay I want those vipers prepped for emergency launch. Check their code."

Just as I said it one of my officers held a hand up. "Sir, the ship they claim to be was reported to have landed at Coridon less then twenty for hours from now and even if this was them, they could not travel across the galaxy that fast. Whoever it is, it must be pirate." I frowned more. I hatted liers more then anything.

"Open a link again." For just a moment Zan thought. Those reinforcements would be here in a few more hours. If we held out that long then we would be fine. Their ship may be smaller, but not greatly. Size was not going to determin the course of a fight if one broke out. "I am only saying this one last time. Report the true identity of your ship and captain at once or we will open fire with our full payload. this site and the crew aside from your own ship are under the authority of the Vandorian Trade Empire. Continuing to lie or arm your ship will marked as an enemy and a fare target. Cease all hostile actions before I am forced to open fire."

Once the line was cut i turned to the com officer. "Relay a message to the crews on the wreck. Have them seal off all entrances into that ship for the time being and be armed for combat. If they ask, possible pirates." The officer got to work. "Pilot, move this ship in direct path between them and the wreck and keep the direction of our weapons fire on their ship. Make no move to act till I say so."

"Yes sir. Shields are up, weapons armed, drones ready and we are in full green. Prepping code for actions stations now. We are all set at your word sir. Turret crews are already on root to their stations." Please be smart and leave us alone.
***

A few days in emergency hyperspace was faster than I expected. In fact, it was so quick that i was sure we dropped out early. I know found myself standing on the bridge questioning my pilot. "Are we there already?"

"In a manner of speaking yes. Well half of us anyway. I can't explain it entirely but whatever happened, our hyper drive and all those on similar ships made an impressive climb in speed. The down side is they will take a day too cool down and regenerate for a jump, more then enough time for the rest of the fleet to arrive mam. However, the problem we do have is where we jumped in. Our ship is on the front side of the wreck and we are at the opposite end. Twenty light hours at max thrust. If we go to military thrust we can shave off maybe an hour." Mostly good news then but some bad.

I thought long and hard. Whatever this ship was I did not need them horrassing my cruiser. The other bad news is that this was a meager five ships of our entire fleet. I did not have a lot to work with. "Open a hale to this unknown ship and strip its ID Beacon for info once in range."

"Yes mam. Set course?" I nodded. "Very well, I will have two of our ships stay for the rest of the fleet and hale is open."

"Unknown ship. This is Emperass Jane of the Vandorian Trade Empire. If you want to dare call me a lier on who I am then take a good look at the ship name I am commanding on the beacon because I assure you, this is not your lucky day. I have reports that you have lied to my Captain Zan and are continuing your approach after being waned to back off. This is your last chance to comply to this request or I will without hesitation come over there and blow you into smithereens. You have ten minutes to either get lost or explain what the hell it is your up to. Starting now." I was sure they klnew how far away we would be and the time it would take to get their, but as I get data, I knew one thing, I had speed. A lot of it. Current corse was on without the boosters which I dare not use yet, but any sane man normally thought twice before picking a fight with the Vandorian Trade Empire, and not because of fear.

It was well known that we took a fight serieously and that no murcy came to those who got to be on the recieving end of my guns. The Angels Glave was the ship I captained. A fare piece of work. Most ships were equipped for at least some trade cargo if only a little. I personally had this one outfitted for full military usage. "Attention crew, this is the Captain speaking. Report to emergency stations. I repeat, report to emergency stations, code read, this is not a drill." I turned the link off and the internal com off. I perpusally let him know that I was setting my ship up for a fight. I meant business and I ment it. It was just then that my CO came over.

He was pale. Obviously knowing what I intended. "No. Pirate or not they have no reason, right, or justification to be meddling with military ships belonging to a faction. Whoever this caption is, he is a lair and a meddling fool. I am not going to sit back and play princess when my ship is potentially in danger. Now get to a com and get engineering to work on those boosters. The sooner we are there then the sooner i get rid of this slime."

Crossing my arms, i waited. It would be so much easier if this guy would just leave us alone. I don't want the trouble and I don't have time for this mess. I opened a secure channel to Zan. "My Lady, the crews on the wreck have found the problem with the ships power. Most of it is minor interior damage thats preventing power flow but it can be on in a day or so. Anyway, that is all we know. Most of this thing is honestly in bad shape and I don't see it getting any better any time soon. Its going to take a fortune to repair this thing if you intend to use it and brake the laws."

"At this point Captain, we already have. Whoever that is has no idea about the regulations the Guild has set in place and to be more honest, i would sooner blow the guild up than putsy around as their slave. Most of the crap they have is just to give them cash. For now focus on thos on the ship. Don't fire on that ship unless I hive the order too."

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Teal Deer Wed Jun 04, 2014 5:35 pm

((Deus ex Machina, Fuzzy? I'll remember that.))

Looking over the fleet that was showing up on my screens, I swore.

"They had no way to know about the Stratocaster! I saw it explode myself!" the bridge talker exploded, grabbing his console in frustration. I wasn't far off from breaking something myself- we had good odds on taking a trade frigate if they opened up.

"Get ready to open a communication relay, and recall the jig and catamarans. We can't win this one."

I was still steaming, and things were not looking good. The Stratocaster was supposed to be an ironclad identity, and it had been copied in less than a year. I had made sure it was a good ruse; with the original scrapped and locked in orbit over Freja, nothing should have pierced our shroud. Of course, more than a few ships had met their demise in that whirring field of debris. It could very well been a legitament sister-ship to us.

"Comn link ready at your request, standard Vandorian encryption."

"Rodger, open on my mark."

Pulling my hair in to a more formal randere, I pulled on it one last time and got ready to lawyer with the best of them. Thankfully, my position as a "savage" from the relatively backwoods (to them) Glee Anslem meant my parinoid reaction might be excused. Of course, I might also exit flinging missiles and 238's anyway. Oh well.

"Mark" I ordered, as my ship started moving away from the fleet slowly. As the connection opened, I looked in to the receiver steadily. Time to see if these were reasonable people, or prospective enemies.

The man didn't look all that bad. Really, maybe a little decent. If he had been less troublesome I might even been incline to let him off freely. Well see how well his manners play out first.

"Sense your turning away I will be less likely to blow you from space for the bothersome trouble you have caused. You have any idea hw hard it is to cool down a warp engine?!" A small rant. Expected from most captions in my situation, but unlike most captions, I didn't keep ranting. "Anyway, this site for a short time will be under my command as my men are on that wreck and we were here first. If you want anything I can have scraps we cant do anything with sent to you. I cant promise it would be worth much. Is that enough to get you to stop pestering my ships?"

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Teal Deer Thu Jun 12, 2014 2:19 pm

I had hopes for this discussion. I honestly did. Of course, these were Vandorians. As much as I disliked making slurs on basis of origin, Vandorians had a reputation. Out by Glee Ansem, it wasn't so good. Stuffy, bureaucratic, and filled with Colonial self-righteousness, Vandorians were not in good flavor back home. Of course, anyone from a backwater like Glee Anslem was doomed to a reputation, so I could normally act as impolitic as I pleased. Today, however, was not the day for impolitic and clear speach. At least this particular captain was forthright.

"Considering the fact I am no salvage hunter, that would be acceptable. As for your complaint on warp drives, I think my ship has it worse- we had a coupling failure that forced us out of FTL flight. As an unaligned member of the Brethren of the Stars, I would advise you to follow the simple courtesy of making a wide-band transmission whenever you lay claim to salvage larger than thirty thousand tonnes or a functioning vessel. We have found this to cut down on potentially hostile confrontations such as this." Letting slip a Cheshire smile at the end of my comment, I watched my crews' reactions carefully. For a ship to be considered a member of the Brethren, they had to lay claim to a armed ship over sixty thousand tonnes, destroy two ships of their class and armament, capture four merchantmen as prizes, and hold no oaths to a guild or master. The first two we had done legally, without doubt. The third was completed as a technicality legal act, in the reacapture of five ships seized by wolfhead's pirates.

"I will be departing the system as son as my drives are repaired." I finished, clear my facade and waiting their response.

"My respects for your achievements caption, however based on what you said, then I am sure you have no idea what voicing claims to a wreck like this would cause. A Trade Guild has taken over operations of all trade companies, restricting ship classes to the bare minimal and preventing any real power house from taking shape. Had I laid claims to this locally like is regulated, it would likely cause a war." No point in lying. It would not get me far. To top that I wanted them gone and this mess dealt with quickly. The sooner I get the leet here the sooner we get this thing back online and out of here...hopefully. "What warp drive series do you use?"

Looking the other captain in the eye, I chuckled.

"We appear to have a difference of measurement here. A tonne, or more accurately tonne Theirn, is the mass of one cubic meter filled with Saphic gas. Saphic gas is ultraheavy, along with being able to congeal at low temperature and being brightly colored. We use it for detecting leaks and measuring ship size at the same time."

"As for the FTL drive, we've needed to retrofit for a couple of months now. We've been putting most of our jumps on the unholy child of a Bât-Chatlion 167 crossed with an AMX-48 melded to an IS-7 power feed and vent system. That hulk looked old enough for a Renault or Hotchkiss drive to be instaled- perfect to tear down for parts. With or without the scrap, we should be able to leave in a couple of hours."

Well. as you have made no official act of violence agains any of my ships, I see no reason to put any harm down on you. Simply I can offer the best of my engineering crew if need be. I can assure you that these people are fully aware of what they are doing. Only if you need them of course. Anyhow, I will get to you on a report for that scrap in say two hours max? Fare enough?" Just as I finished, my reports collector if you will, came to the bridge and now stood behind the screen I was looking at. I gave him a quick glance to as a notice that I knew he was there. He simply nodded and I waited for a reply.

I looked in to the camera with an expression of utter distaste. The poor fellow probably didn't realize he had made one of the six most deadly insults to a Wild Space captain. Probably. While the engineering officer in the command pit started howling obscenities and death threats in Ryxi, I spoke up in as polite a tone as possible.

"Unless your engineers are idiot savants with thirty years experience to the last apprentice, they would be worse than useless." I said, letting my distaste with the notion drip through. Considering that more than a few members of the bridge crew was calling them pop-mooks in any one of a dozen languages, I was being downright civil. "My entire system has been considered outdated and worthless by anyone deeper than the Mid Rim for the past hundred years, and has evolved from that standpoint as to be unrecognizable. It is also built from three different manufacturers and six part lines, none of which were designed to be compatible. Parts would be just as useless- unless you have a spare Tannhauser Field generator that can be adapted to 665AC/375DC standard."

Calling down, I yelled for the jig to re-deploy and start tearing the engines of the scrap-heap apart in Vinnish. Heterogeneous crew were such an advantage over the straight-laced Guildsmen.

"Look here caption, if you want to get snippy and crabby with me, then by all means do so and i will reconsider NOT blowing you to pieces. Now, I will give you one last chance, you can either accept the offered help, of you can RESPECTFULLY decline and I will choose to neglect that you have already crossed a very thin line with me. Take your pick." I nodded over my pilot who prepped a course but did not throw the thrusters on.

If there was one thing I tolerated on thin ice, its disrespect without due cause. To top that, he insulted my engineering crew and did his best to present the idea we were idiots along these lines. Normally I would have closed the communicate and taken hostile action for such line crossing, but today I was in a friendly mood, but now, that was wavering.

As I waited, I got a report that a shipment of scrap was due to arrive at my ship in less than an hour. I took note of that.

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Teal Deer Fri Jul 11, 2014 10:20 pm

(Welcome to blue-and-orange mentality, Fuzzy. Chaos versus Law hasn't panned out, so say hello to the next axis.)

Glairing through the camera, I snorted with disdain.

"Try thinking out of your Guild-mandated box, you brass battery. We've been offered nothing but the core-cursed courtesy of a system dancing with perdition and entropy! No man of the Reaches would accept a Guild man's word, and yet you have presumed we were one of the tamed dogs left loose in the pasture! No more!"

Snarling the last sentence out, I slammed the button to cut the comm link off. Belting off orders, I got ready for a hot exit.

"Engineering, I want FTL capacity in less than half an hour! Navigation, plot exit course to Iceworld, least-time max-evade! Weapons, I want point-defense and shields running hot and wet yesterday. Offensive batteries are secondary, just make sure we leave in one piece. ExCon, I want all hatches sealed and ready ASAP! Helm, full power to the drives and prepare Impeller fields as soon as we are at safe distance. I want point-forty-C now, and damn the Waltz!"

Grinning under the presure, I watched as we started counter-accelerating, as my feet left the floor. Artificial gravity was great, but under extreme thrust it just couldn't hold up. Thus, the Waltz- the time when the gravity died, and the entire ship went into free-fall for the course of a maneuver. Most ships couldn't take it- with artificial gravity used as a structural strengthener and skeleton system, the Waltz was incredibly dangerous. This ship was different, though- built at the Iceyards, artificial gravity was added as an afterthought. There was no way a trader could follow us, as we started accelerating.

When tactics came up, the subject of the ship-to-ship chase was often brought up. With missiles that could travel at up to 75C, with C being the speed of light, most people wondered why the chases happened when the pursued were inevitably screwed, as people could only tolerate an acceleration rate of 0.35C squared. The trick was to use whatever means possible to fool the body into thinking it was only going that fast, by any means necessary. Ours, the Impeller Wedge, created counter-gravity fields that moved with the ship cancelling out the acceleration stresses, while creating a massive gravitational vortex behind us that foiled anything besides a beam weapon.

Besides, beam weapons were what shields were for. God knows we had plenty of those.

"Ma'am, do we give chase?" My Co asked. I spent a moment watching their movement before I shook my head.

"No. Bring about the forward missile pod and lock onto the target. I will bet they have flares so use type B. rip their ship name and mark as well, we report him to the guild and let them deal with him. I don't have time for a loose cannon." he soluted and nodded, leaving in a rush. I turned to the comms officer.

"Get me a report on our crews onboard that wreck. Keep an eye out for the fleet as well." With that said I patched a call to the deck officer. "Get thee of our drones on emergency prep launched. They are to keep their distance from that ship but to take shots too. I want them out of this system quickly."

With that all in order, I looked out the window. What did he know? The guild monitored operations yes but hey had no rules on formality. At the least, none that they cared to monitor an enforce. Not that it bothered me. I was raised to be proper when facing another caption. Not like it mattered. He was he least of my problems and with luck I would not be dealing with him for a long time to come.

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Teal Deer Sat Jul 19, 2014 10:46 pm

Looking into the mass of cameras mounted over my ship, I grinned as a picture coalesced through the computer's filter- the sight of an incoming missile.

"Hostilities initiated. Weapons, bring the Master Gunner online and begin preparing countermeasures."

"Aye, Skipper. Master Gunner AM4G9 will be online in ten minutes."

"Make it five"

"Skipper, you know how finicky a Savant is, let alone one as tied deep as Tecumseh is."

"I know. Tell Tecumseh that we're going hot in five minutes with or without him."

"Aye Sir."

Looking over the monitor in front of me and the mass of images flowing through the implant, I quietly wondered how a savant could handle it all. Tecumseh was one such- a master gunner in the flesh alone, but blessed with a mind incredibly capable of taking implants: capable to the point where he was permanently wired into a coldsleep capsule, asleep until the ship had call for his abilities. The only reason I had one was because of Tecumseh's extensive injuries, which required massive amounts of life support. His solution was to bury himself deeper in the ship's electronics, while his mortal coil slowly ceased to function.

((A/N: Yes, this is canonically possible. Ssi-Ruuvi [Star Wars] can do it, so can I. I'm just nicer.))

As batteries went hot, I watched the incoming missile, grinning. With a quick flick of my wrist, the kinetic inputs for my implant kicked in. Seeing as the implant had to deliver and receive input from existing vectors, most commands used a open menu gesture, followed by a couple of flicks of the wrist. This... this was much broader. Every movement had a consequence until I disconnected. Looking at the now much closer missile, I started signing. An optic point-defense mount swiveled out, stabbing with a laser beam that cooked the missile until it was destroyed. Still grinning, I made a quick order.

"Ready skip torpedoes. Weapons, prepare to unleash hell."

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Lord James Mon Jul 21, 2014 7:02 pm

I snarled at the screen. "Pull the drones back." I snapped. He was pushing my nerves and I expect this was his goal. I was not going to abandon my post here just to chase some barbaric brat. "CO!" I snapped out. he turned his attention to me faster than i had ever seen him move.

"Set the ship into warp." For a moment, he didn't move but then began to prep the engine. I patched into the inter com. "Attention crew, this is the Commander speaking, se this ship to code red, I repeat set the ship to code red, this is not a drill." I turned to the co and mouthed to him. He told me we had ten minutes max. I returned to the com. "Ten minute emergency stations." With that, you could here the quick but organized footsteps of people moving through the halls. Moments letter, weapons crews were punching in 'Active' and I was getting reports all over this battleship of position locking in.

"Co, prep our shields for missile impact and raise the magnetic shielding as well.Even if they don't bounce off we can slow them down. Point defence systems online and activate all auto rail guns. Close hanger doors and secure them. Lock down hanger blast shields." As I spoke, buttons were pressed. Everything was set.

Finally I looked up, the countdown was just about up.Once it hit zero, everything turned into an instant haze. Not a moment letter, it was normal again. I checked the monitors, and it was all clear. We warped just right alongside of them, only a slight bit off the prefered position. I didn't hesitate. "Fire..." With that, the broadside cannons let it rip onto the side of their ship. Along with them the auto turrets began locking onto obvious self defence locations.

Even with those shields up, that class ship would not hold out under the pressured firepower of a battleship. They would either have to run or surrender. I prefered they just scat and leave us alone, however that was not going to seam so likely.

"Co, prepare a message and send the following to our dearest friend here, text only." He nodded.

Text Message
This is Empress Jane of the Vandorian Trade Empire. You are being fired upon for presenting hostile action without due cause. Surrender your ship and your crew peacefully or do as follows. We will hold our fire on the condition you shut down all weapons, defences may stay on. Should at any point any weapon come active at any point after, we will not hesitate to return fire just the same. You have as much time as your shields will hold to reply, if you fail to reply then and your shields fail, your ship will be destroyed and your crew killed.

If you take this as a means to attack us back, again hostile action will be met with equal to grater response. Continued hostility will not be tolerated any further. From what we can read, you have less than ten minutes to reply. Think carefully.'

With that done I took in a deep breath. "Are the EMP shields online?" I asked, looking to the Co. he nodded and I nodded then to myself. My actions may at this point been overcalled for, and I would agree. However, i was not going to sit back and let anyone just trash us either. I don't like being toyed with and I don't take kindly to it. He was going to learn this. I may be overreacting, but I was not about to let this dirt bag get away to harass other people either. I know many people who agree. Weather the guild does or not however is the least of my concern.

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Teal Deer Mon Jul 21, 2014 9:20 pm

((What the heck happened to nothing above a light frigate hull, and you turn into a battleship?))

Swearing violently, I started barking orders as their optics weapons slammed into the ship.

"Weapons, I want all optics batteries brought to bear RIGHT NOW. Launch missile salvos, Bronzers and ECM packages both. The minute they open up for a volley, I want enough radiation down their throats to make that wreck glow."

My weapons officer blanched, but coolly relayed the order. Bronzers were ultraheavy missiles- each one weighed in at close to a thousand pounds, with a ionic monopropelent engine that could ratchet them up to .65C, before they hit. As if the sheer kinetic impact wasn't enough to kill something deader than dead, they were equiped with a penetration aid- a warhead that converted the impact energy into a burst of hard radiation, bypassing shields and wrecking havoc on the enemy. Conventional beam weapons either used a burst of focused thermal radiation or a continual stream of overcharged photons entering the X-ray spectrum of light. My pen-aids let rip with a burst of gamma radiation that on a particularly good hit reached the theoretical theta or eta radiation spectrum. ECM, by contrast, was electrnic countermeasures. Whatever would screw up their systems, an ECM missile would find and exploit. If all else failed, nukes wer'nt out of the option.

"Fire Control, I want to keep shields going as long as you can. After that, just make sure we can escape. Navigation, I want us cruising the iota band as soon as we leave this dump. Iceworld must learn of this, and soon."

As the seconds trickled by, I watched the beam weapons tap my shields as mine fired back. Finally, as the missle bays reported ready, I ordered a full broadside. The ECM would throw off point-defense; leaving their shields the only thing between them and destruction.

(eye, its large enough to be a frigate but classified as a battleship as so far no sip over that size is been authorized. Think of it as a highly armed frigate. Completely legit and her personal flagship.)

"Ma'am, i am locking down corridors to prevent radiation breaking through the whole ship and we do have minor hull damage coming up. Nothing serious yet. Gun crews are taking it careful too but we will have to clean them when we can."

I nodded and watched out the command bridge. "Open the other side of the hanger and launch the drone bombers. Have them attack from the front, top and rear." I kept an eye on our readings, keeping sure nothing too serious would go wrong. Shields were holding but it didn't stop shrapnel form shell chunks from hitting the hull. Thankfully that was a cheep fix.

((I need to do a logic check here, so I don't look off base and start something.
1. Frigates are a class of warship.
2. Battleships are a class of warship.
3. Battleships and Frigates have diffrences in 90% of their construction and armerment, namly that Battleships are bigger.
4. IF your vessel can accuratly described as a battleship, THEN it is NOT a Light Frigate.

5. The Guildes have class restrictions on ships, namely nothing bigger than a Light Frigate
6. IF your ship is NOT a Light Frigate (or smaller) THEN it is EITHER A) Outside Guild jurisdiction, B) Breaking the prestated rules C) described as a Battleship as a fallacy.

7. The Empress would have close ties to the guildes.
8. THEREFORE, she would have to obey or modify Guild Regulations.
9. THEREFORE, A) is false.
10. THEREFORE, B) or C) is true.

Just ao we don't have a disagreement on this later, point out anyberrors in this logic, Ok?
Also, powerplay on so many levels. Star Wars and Vatta's war leave radiation out as a possible weapon, so unless Battlestar has it show up regularlly, there is NO WAY your ship should have rad defences outside standered deep-space shields.))

Watxhing the flight of missles grow closser, I grinned quietly as my gravatics slung the enemies' projectile weapons away. My shielods were diminishing steadally, but the flight of missles was right in target.

"Sir! The ECM has reported back! We tapped their wirless network, and are breaking in now! Bronzers T-2 from impact!"

"Good. I want their fire controll paralyzed. Get every trojan, worm, and spambot in their ship right now!"

"Yes sir!"

((Of course, Battlestar uses hostile computer interference ALL DAY, so thanks for that opening.))

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Lord James Tue Jul 22, 2014 4:50 pm

(I will say this again, your in a galaxy where ship SIZE is not authorized to break beyond the size of a frigate class ship, this deals with size alone. Therefor no rule exists that a Frigate SIZE ship can not be redesigned to meet the needs of what a Battleship CLASS -not size- ship is supposed to provide. With that said, it makes more then logical sense that in a galaxy limited like this, the way ships are built had been modified to stay within the limits provided.

As for radiation weapons, please take note that this galaxy has been in the galactic age for a while now. With that in mind, it would not make sense that by there day and age, defences against weapons revolving radiation defences have been put in place. Therefor I can not see how being smart enough to have these defences is power playing when it makes logical sense that ships should be in the first place, equipped with them.

On a third matter, i can call you in at minor power playing as you never mentioned trying to hack my ship until AFTER shit began to happen. Three, being that the frigate is military grade and thus has the up most highest protection, its once again reasonable that even a wiz would take some time before hacking in. being in the galactic age alone already implies new defences into blocking hacking. However, I will let this go.

On another note, yes I do reference battlestar but, as far as rights go to another ship, you have no right to tell me the defence capabilities of my ship and that is for me to examine and go through and present when need or when requested. That just comes with respecting another player.

Before its brought up, I referenced the chance your shields would drop at some point yes, but this is assumed by size and class of the ship your in. You have not brought up anything outlying the defence capability of the ship nor have you mentioned shield power which is limited enough with a ship that small. This was assumed yes but sense you made no move to mention stronger shields and what not, you have already confirmed in your post by the line referring to a steady drop in shields that there is no upgraded shields or whatever you want to call it.

With that said, I see no error with the current standing when what I have done is purely being smart and keeping your ass covered. To prevent future arguments on the matter, I will quickly explain the following.

The ship the Empress uses and captions is a Frigate class by SIZE not design and weapons power and defences. Radiation defences do exist as they are requiered by Vandorian law to have them built into the ships. Along with this you have the defences I have already mentioned through the rp. If there are any further disagreements with what I have said thus far, PM me please.

"Mam, several EMC missiles incoming." I turned my head over to the screen. Sure enough there were a few marked coming our way.

"The guy has guts, I will give him that. Co, get our EMC out of storage and into the missile tubes. Hurry that up." With that i turned to my own council and directed a portion of the auto turrents to focus fire on blowin those things up. Not as effective but better than nothing.

Slowly one by one the misled vanished off the screen only to be replaced. It was not however getting them all. If we did not get those ECM's out here soon and counter, one or even more was bound to break the auto turret defense.

"Com's officer, patch a message to the engineering crews. I want vital life systems locked down in separate computers. Get them out of the mainframe for now. Do the same with the weapons too." He nodded and tuned onto it.

An officer looked over. "Will that stop any hacking?"

"no but it will slow them don greatly. They will have to take each system one at a time and while they try to do that, we can counter hack. Its not a permanent defence but it will keep is floating longer. What is their shield statice?"

"Low mam, but we still have a wais to go. Locking down corridor 86 mam, shrapnel damage broke through a window." I nodded and kept in line on the stats. We were holding, yes, but we wee still taking minor damage. That was not being avoided.

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Teal Deer Thu Jul 24, 2014 1:53 pm

My ship rocked as another missile slipped through our point defense, and I swore blindly. We were taking hits, but at least the gravatic fields were hosing the brunt of missiles off of us.

"Communications, shut down all wireless communication on board. Weapons, get me firing solutions on skip torpedoes one through three. Fire Control, I want all systems compartmentalized yesterday."

As a smaller explosion detonated, my ship rolled slightly. Grinning slightly, I rode it out and watched the point defense work. Suddenly, I heard a bellow from the communications tech.

"Ship is now set to internal wiring. I'm getting some interference on our TBS bands, but they must not have cycled yet. Also, ECM missiles have confirmed entry into enemy hardware."

My smile raised hackles all over the bridge. ECM was an old favorite for Iceworld techies, and some of them were frickin nasty. Most people, the prime target was life support and weapons. To an Iceworld programmer, the entire ship was the weapon to be disabled one piece at a time.

"Alright, then. Set them to pattern Foxtrot Sierra Uniform. Prioritize power core and automatic damage control, secondary targets sensor inputs and intership communications."

"Aye sir. Looks like they launched ECM themselves. Not as good as ours, but it's making a serious attempt. Ship-to-Ship communications is just about gone, but we're locking everything down to be sure."

"Alright, then. Weapons deck, launch Skip torpedoes away from enemy, with full circle routing."

As the skip torpedoes flew away from the battle and slipped into hyperspace, I grinned quietly. We could trade volleys for another half hour, but the battle would be over in ten minutes either way.

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Lord James Thu Jul 24, 2014 11:09 pm

I snarled. "What has been compromised?"

"Mam, nothing vital. Vital systems are too far into the ship. They would have to blow a hole to get there but power on the broadside is at risk. I already informed the weapons deck and they are switching to backup generators separate from the main power source. Aside from that they can cut communications what that section of the ship." I thought for a moment. Our shields were holding, but this was not helping us at all.

Prowling over the screen, three more contacts began to barely register. "Officer what is this? Who are they?!" The comms officer turned to me.

"The fire we are exchanging is causing the pickup feed to lag mam. They are ours. Smaller frigates offering assistance." I hold a hand up. "Status Co?"

"Shields are holding but if they hack our ship then no promises. I can not guarantee that our measures will last long." There was a brief silence. "Shut it down." I got weird stairs. "Shut down internal systems except life support and the basics we need. Send the ship into a barrel role. Tell the other three to stay back." No questions, everyone moved.

"Light engine thrust for two minutes then blow them. Put us on a vector heading just above their ship and keep those shields online. Cut power to the areas those ECM missiles landed asap." It did not take long before this odd feeling came over us, as if we could feel the ship turning but then we could not. It was a most interesting experience the first time.

"What now ma'am?" I looked at our course. With the current directory, we were slowly going to our allies but for now, we looked more like a dead ship.Only the shields being on showed any sing we were not dead.

"Now let them come." I muttered, and they transmitted a signal to my allies, clearing them to open fire on the enemy target once in range. For now, with the power focused on shields, I was sure we would make it out alive. However, I had a feeling they would not die today. If they leave I don't care, but is they stay...well I don't know yet.

A Galaxy Divided Empty Re: A Galaxy Divided

Post by Teal Deer Thu Jul 24, 2014 11:58 pm

As the enemy ship struck her weapons, I laughed loudly to myself.

"Serves those spawn of Bel'al right. Communications, what else is in system?"

"Bad news, sir. Three light frigates, all with Guilde IFF tags. I'm catching some chatter, and it looks like a search team for the frigate we just finished thumping into submision."

"Rot and Ruin" I swore. Their apearence would prevent me the luxary of comiting to a boarding manuver, which negated a good hunk of the profit in tackling the frigate. Just because a man's honor was scorned didn't mean he could'nt make some money of the confrontation. "Quartermaster, what's our weapons status?"

"We're down half our total missle stock, with only a quarter of our ECM heads, half of our pen-aid heads, and our conventional nucular warhead suply untouched. Countermissles are down to thirty percent, and point defence has lost half it's emitters due to hull damage. They spalshed us bad, Captain."

"Very wrll. Fire Controll, status?"

"Missle launches One, Five, Seven, and Eleven were damaged, Nine is disabled, and Three is inoperable from debris. Turbolaser mounts Six, Eight, and Twelve are all disabled, with mount Three destroyed. Both launch bays are disabled, all of our shields are severly worn, poin tdefence is half unoprable, and we've lost a good half of our superstructure. Good news is that the substructure is mostly intact, save for a nasty hit that knocked out a mess hall and wardroom. We've got patch teams seeling the leek, but there was shrapnel. Air loss is at sixty kiloliters an hour, and power is limited to half to drives. FTL capability is restored, however."

Mopping my head, I winced at the lon glist of damages. For the most part, we came out alright- only one good penatrating shot had hit us, and that was better than some engagments we were in. The superstructure loss, though... that was bad. Superstructure was the mounting point for all the extra goodies we couldn't fit inside substructure- IE; the hull. Point defence and laser weapon bateries, as well as the gravatic generators all rested in the beehive latice, so damage there was just a serious as hull damage. The worst thing wa sthe air loss, though. Normall leakage for a ship my tonnage was three kiloliters an hour, not sixty. We had to make for Iceworld imidiantly- if not, then we would run out of air and die.

"Weapons, retract skip torpedoes. Navagation, prepare least-time least-distance course to Iceworld. Helm, procede to start course and initiat FTL jump when ready."

I wasn't worried about purauit. Only a maniac would blindly travel into the deapths of space, and nobody had ever found Iceworld who wasn't introduced. After all, planets were gemerally found near stars- not drifting through space.
